AMMAN, July 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Amateur Athletic Federation Khalifa Abu Shaiba Thursday dedicated Ali Zankawi's gold-medal Hammer Throw victory to Kuwait leadership.
Abu Shaiba, in remarks to KUNA, added Kuwait participation in the 17th Asian Athletics Championship includes players Saleh Al-Haddad, Yosif Al-Yoha, Mohammad Al-Enzi, and Dahash brothers, Fouzi and Fawaz.
Zankawi defended his Hammer throw title of last year successfully despite of a big throw from Tajikistan's Dilsilshod Nazarov in the opening round which measured 75.70 meter but the Kuwaiti thrower responded with 75.71 meters to clinch the title.
Last night the President of Jordan Olympic Committee Prince Feisal Al Hussein inaugurated the 17th Asian Athletics Championship at Amman International Stadium with participation of 32 countries.
Earlier in the morning heats, Qatar's Francis Smaual set the new championship record in men 100m with a timing of 10.18 seconds in the 4th heat of men's 100m qualifying round.
