'Conditions' detailed again
KUWAIT CITY: Head of the General Traffic Department's driving tests in the Mubarak Al-Kabir governorate Maj Tareq Al-Khorafi said a person applying for the learner's licence must first pass the theory test as a pre-requisite to continue with the practical driving test, reports Al-Anba daily. Al-Khorafi added on an average between 30 and 40 applicants do the driving test every day and only 50 per cent of them go through, although 95 per cent of them pass the theory test. He added according to Article 85, expatriates, who apply for driving licences, must have a university degree, hold a valid residence permit and earn not be less than KD 400 a month.
They should also have resided in the country for at least two years before applying for a driving licence provided and meet the conditions on age and health. The following category of persons applying for a driving licence is exempted from the residency and salary conditions:
1. Consultants, judges, members of prosecution, legal experts, lawyers.
2. Doctors and pharmacists
3. Professors working at universities, colleges and higher institutes
4. Teachers, social workers and laboratory technicians
5. Engineers and assistant engineers
6. Non-Kuwaiti women married to Kuwaiti men
7. Non-Kuwaiti women who are widows or divorcees of Kuwaiti men.
8. Non-Kuwaiti men married to Kuwaiti women and their children
9. Imams of mosques
10. Librarians working at the Education Ministry
11. Nursing staff and X-ray technicians working at government hospitals and clinics
12. Journalists and other media personnel
13. Directors and accountants with university degree.
14. Trainers working at sports federations, clubs and 15 government sector and players
15. Pilots and assistant pilots
16. Expatriate housewives who have children and provided their husbands are eligible to obtain driving licence
17. Students provided they are registered in any one of the universities or applied institutions in Kuwait
18. Company representatives (mandoubs)
19. Grave diggers and undertakers
20. Persons coming to work as drivers in private and government companies and establishments and government institutions
21. Domestic workers (drivers) holding Article No 20 residence permit
