KUWAIT CITY: Damas, the leading retail jewellery store in the Middle East Sunday unveiled the Frederique Constant watch collections, a highly recognised watch brand from Switzerland at a press conference at the Marriott Courtyard. Talking to newsmen, Tareq Mohammad Al-Ghannam, of Damas and Al-Ghannam Jewellery Co said 'Kuwait is a very important market for watches as we noticed our customers' refined taste and their desire to purchase niche brands.' With the introduction of Frederique Constant watches at Damas Les Exclusives Boutique, we can cater to our valued clientele a premium watch brand, he added.

For his part Bruno Dard, International Director of Frederique Constant said "it is indeed a privilege for us to be associated with Damas, a very well-known name in the jewellery and watch sector in the Middle East." With the same intensity of passion both Damas and we are certain that Frederique Constant is represented well and is being driven through to reach its targets by people who have great passion for products like ours, he observed. "The company will continue doing what it does best - creating new Frederique Constant watches with passion. A number of very interesting new developments are underway and the brand will keep strengthening its close relationships with distributors and retailers."

The journey of Damas retail network began in 1907, and today it has grown from UAE based company into a global fashion and jewellery network. The Damas retail network spans across US, Italy, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Jordan, Maldives, India, Lebanon and throughout the GCC countries with over 130 outlets worldwide. Dard said the name Frederique Constant has been created from two names Frederique Schreiner and Constan Stas, adding it was established in its current form in 1988 by a couple, Aletta and Peter Stas who are still personally involved in the day-to-day operation of the company. They launched their first collection in 1992 called 'The 18th Century Collection' comprising 6 models fitted with Swiss movements and assembled by a watchmaker in Geneva, he added.

Watches manufactured under its trademark are either designed by Frederique Constant or by independent designers contracted for a specific series of models. Frederique Constant uses cutting-edge computer software, principally computer aided design software, to assist in the watch design and development process, he said. "With passion, Frederique Constant designs and develops new models that radiate luxury. Most of the Frederique Constant watches are built around intricate mechanical movements, in which they always try to implement new time measurement function." 'Attention to detail does not stop with the movement but is as much valid for the other parts of Frederique Constant watches - the cases, dials, hands, crowns, straps and bracelets. All individual components are finished by craftsmen with extensive experience in the horological industry and who share the same passion.'

Referring to the main Frederique Constant collections, Dard said the Frederique Constant highlife timepieces are the flagship of the collection. They have a number of distinguishing characteristics. The large Arabic numerals were individually shaped to mimic the registered bracelet center link. Movements either have complications or are ultra flat.
