KUWAIT CITY: The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor will temporarily suspend the processing of commercial visit visas for companies due to the increasing number of marginal expatriate workers in the country, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting Minister Dr Mohammad Al-Afasi.

Speaking at an Iftar gathering organized recently by the Social Care Home Sector in Sulaibikhat, Al-Afasi revealed the decision will take effect on Sept 1. He stressed the need to balance the lopsided population structure in the country, especially since the ministry has noticed a remarkable increase in the number of visit visas being transferred to work permits. He lamented some people have abused the leniency of the authorities; hence, the need to take strict measures to curb the rising number of marginal workers.

Al-Afasi explained the temporary suspension will give the ministry a chance to review the policy and lay down new regulations or conditions to allow the private sector to recruit competent and skilled laborers to expedite the implementation of their projects.
