KUWAIT CITY: The Divided Zone Agreements and Kuwait Islands and Mega Projects Development Team announced Wednesday it is evaluating prequalification documents submitted by local and international companies in order to shortlist them for the first phase of the Bubiyan Port Project. The team, in a statement obtained by the Arab Times, said companies shortlisted will be made to present their bids to the Central Tenders Board which is expected to commence and finish the selection process in April 2005. The team expects the construction work on the project to begin by the fourth quarter of the year. The team said it received prequalification documents from 23 consortia made up of 48 local and international companies. It said all the companies have proven track records in the construction industry especially with regards to roads and bridges. It added that this is very important for the Bubiyan Project to raise it to regional and international standards and make it a hub for regional maritime trade.

Involve

The first phase of the Bubiyan Port Project would involve the construction of a 24-km major road from Subiya Bay in the west to the port site on the eastern part of the island. It will also include backfilling, treatment of soil and the construction of a 400-meter bridge to link road networks to the major road on the island. The 23 consortia are -- M.
