KUWAIT, Jan 6 (KUNA) -- A visiting delegation from Kazakhstan headed by its ambassador to Saudi Arabia Khairat Lama Sharif discussed here on Tuesday in a meeting with members of the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry the economic relations between the two countries and ways of strengthening them.

Sharif said in a statement to the press after the meeting that the visit of the delegation, including officials from government and private sectors, aimed at networking with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in Kuwait for boosting trade exchange, which he described as "poor relations between the two countries, despite the good diplomatic and political, ties".

Sharif pointed out that his country looks forward to the visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, during next June or July, adding that the two countries would be expected to sign seven agreements concerning the prevention of double taxation, oil, gas, education, arts, culture and protection of investments.

He noted that his country is fertile in agricultural products such as wheat, barley and others and is willing to export them to the countries of the region, indicating that preparations were now underway for holding an exhibition of these products in Kuwait next April.

He said his country is also looking forward to a visit by a delegation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Kuwait next March 11 to discuss the best ways to overcome the obstacles to increase trade and investment between the two countries.

For his part, member of the Board of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abdul Wahab Al-Wazzan said almost all countries of the world suffer from a lack of liquidity due to the global financial crisis, but there are some who have liquidity to engage in various projects, expressing confidence that the discussion with the Kazakh delegation will have a positive impact on medium and long terms.

Al-Wazzan described the trade exchange between the two countries as "very weak" for the existence of many obstacles, including the poor land, sea and air transport, as well as the lack of knowledge of the Kuwaiti side of investment opportunities in Kazakhstan and their governing laws.
