JEDDAH - King Abdulaziz University (KAU) has announced a new method for embalming corpses and anatomical samples used for educational purposes.
Dr. Abdul Monem Al-Haiyani of the Anatomy Department at the Faculty of Medicine said the new method used a natural botanical substance called Kamalak as a replacement for the previously used Formalin which, he said, had been shown to cause harmful side-effects such as cancer and allergies in those who use it.
Dr. Al-Haiyani said that the Kamalak had proved successful in combating decomposition in tests and added that it was also effective in drying gangrene in the feet of diabetics.
