Abu Dhabi, May 9th, 2011 (WAM) -- Kalima, the translation project of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), has translated into Arabic the Italian book "Sociologia delle religioni" (Sociology of Religion), written by Sabino Acquaviva and Enzo Pace.

The book addresses primary forms of social harmony by tracking where and how this collective sense was shaped. It examines how social harmony has managed to exist, despite the selfishness of individuals, and how it has allowed the community to come together and offer each other support during times of change or situations of conflict. That is why it is not surprising that religion was one of the first forms to attract the attention of the pioneers of sociology.

The book is written by two Italian sociologists: the first is Sabino Acquaviva, who is considered to be part of the founding generation of the school of sociology in Italy. He was born in the city of Padua in 1929. He has published more than forty books, most famous of which is "L'eclissi del Sacro Nella Civilt Industriale" (The Eclipse of the Sacred in Industrial Societies), 1961, which has been translated into several languages.

The second author is Enzo Pace, who is a professor of sociology at the University of Padua and President of the World Society for the Sociology of Religion. He has published many works including "L'Islam in Europa: Modelli di Integrazione" (Islam in Europe: Patterns of Integration) in 2004.

The book was translated by Izzedine Inaya, a Tunisian professor who teaches at the Sapienza University of Rome, and the L'Orientale in Naples. Among his Arabic translations are: the novel "Bottle"; and Science of Religion: a Contribution to Foundations" (original title: Pour une science des Religions) by the French historian Michel Meslin in 2009.
