AMMAN (JT) -- Japan and Jordan on Wednesday launched a new project to strengthen the capacity of Vocational Training Corporation (VTC) training management.
The VTC will implement the project in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), according to a Japanese embassy statement.
The project seeks to establish an efficient operation and management model for a self-sustaining vocational training centre, which provides services that meet the needs of local communities as well as industries.
JICA will dispatch Japanese experts in the fields of institutional management, training, planning and database establishment, supply the necessary equipment, and provide technical training for Jordanian personnel in Japan in order to support the implementation of the project, which will be completed in 2010.
Japanese Ambassador Shigenobu Kato, VTC Director General Khalil Al Kurdi and Resident Representative of JICA Takeaki Sato attended yesterday's launch.
In his speech at the event, the ambassador said Japan "recognises the important role human resource development plays in nation building and human developments, based on its own experience... After World War II, the driving force of the Japan's modernisation was its qualified human resources. Japan, a country poor in natural resources, succeeded in achieving development and prosperity by giving human resource development a central role in the development process."
He quoted Professor Amartya Sen (a Nobel laureate in economics), as once saying: "The process of development is not primarily one of expanding the supply of goods and services, but enhancing the capabilities of human resources."
