AMMAN -- Jordan and the Republic of Korea will strengthen intercultural dialogue, under a 2007-2009 cultural exchange programme signed on Wednesday.
The programme was signed during a meeting held yesterday between Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Suhair Al-Ali and Korean Ambassador in Amman Yeun-Sung Shin.
Al-Ali said the agreement is in line with both countries' efforts to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.
She noted that the programme covers cooperation in the areas of education and higher education, culture, tourism, media, youth and sports, and archaeology, and is based on a cultural agreement signed between the two countries in 1977.
Since then, a large number of executive programmes have also been signed, which included exchange of information, expertise and skills in the field of education, exchange of scholarships for graduate and postgraduate students, participation in the conferences, seminars and training programmes, as well as exchange of sports and youth delegations.
Expressing the Kingdom's appreciation to the government and the people of the Republic of Korea for their continued support to Jordan, Al-Ali reiterated the important role Korea plays in implementing several key and priority projects in Jordan in various fields, particularly in the water sector.
The minister also highlighted the strong bilateral relations that Jordan and the Republic of Korea enjoy, according to the statement.
Ambassador Shin also referred to the exceptional relations between the two countries, and reaffirmed his government's commitment to supporting Jordan.
The Republic of Korea has been supporting the Kingdom's socio-economic efforts through the provision of financial and technical assistance to a number of sectors.
The Korean government recently approved technical assistance valued at $3 million for the vocational training sector, which includes the establishment of a training centre for vehicle maintenance, as well as the provision of equipment to the Electronic Equipment Training Institute in Jordan.
