Tehran, June 21, IRNA - Iranian companies are working on a project to export the electricity generated from its gas resources to six neighboring countries.
Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Exports Company Alireza Kameli said the first contract to export Iran's gas-generated electricity to neighboring countries was signed with a domestic private sector company last year.
Another four similar contracts have been signed with Iranian companies since, he added.
He said the electricity generated in this manner will be exported to Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
According to the official, the companies involved in the project are currently undertaking studies to locate the best place for building power plants.
He said generating electricity from gas serves one of the objectives of the Iranian Oil Ministry which is trying to diversify its gas exports.
