Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) aims to establish a plant for processing 11 million tons of iron ore tailings in Jalalabad, Kerman province, in cooperation with the private sector.
Announcing the above, Mehdi Karbasian, the head of IMIDRO's Board of Directors, said one million tons of iron ore tailings are produced in Jalalabad's iron ore mine, imidro.gov.ir reported.
"Processing iron ore tailings with purities lower than 30-35 percent was not economical, so about 11 million tons of tailings were stored next to the Jalalabad mine," he said.
Karbasian noted that by taking advantage of new technologies, the processing of cumulated tailings has become economical, hence IMIDRO plans to set up a new plant in Jalalabad in cooperation with the private sector.
