DOHA: The Qatar National e-Learning Portal (QNEP) programme of The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) celebrated a successful first year anniversary yesterday exceeding its target with nearly 5,000 courses completed by various organisations.

"2010 has been a great year for QNEP. We have seen 4,225 courses completed by the government and private sectors exceeding the KPI and 551 courses taken by small and medium business sector," said Reem Al Mansouri, Digital Inclusion Manager at ictQATAR.

QNEP provides more than 2,500 online courses, covering a range of topics in information technology and business. Already, 24 organisations and 37 small and medium businesses in Qatar are taking advantage of the e-Learning Portal. Yesterday's event also honored three organisations in Qatar that have made e-learning a top priority for their employees. Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Doha Bank and Qatar Petroleum were recognised for their successful integration of courses offered on the Qatar National e-Learning Portal into their employment development plans, with HMC recognised as the top organization. Omar Sweiss, Training Manager at HMC was also honored for his leadership in implementing e-Learning in his organisation.

"Organizations in Qatar are reaping the benefits of providing e-Learning courses to their employees. E-Learning is a cost effective way to enhance employees' skills and promote a culture of lifelong learning in an organisation. It provides a tangible return on investment for organizations, while helping employees remain on the cutting-edge of their profession," said Ali Al Kuwari, Assistant Secretary General, ictQATAR.

"The three organizations honored today show tremendous forward-thinking in taking full advantage of the offering on the Qatar National e-Learning Portal. I especially congratulate Omar for his collaborative approach to integrating e-Learning into his organization's training and staff development efforts," Al Kuwari said. "We have found that successful adoption of e-Learning in organisations requires close collaboration with the training managers. By working directly with the training managers, we have seen a significant increase in the number of courses taken and major improvements in alignment with employee professional development plans," said Al-Mansouri. During the event ictQATAR presented its plans for continued growth of the National e-Learning Portal and encouraged more organizations to begin taking advantage of it.

After the first year of implementation of QNEP ictQatar has achieved a milestone for client engagement building a firm foundation for ongoing relationship with various organizations which benefit for its execution of the programme. This year, ictQatar is targeting capability building among QNEP's end-users.
