Abu Dhabi, Feb. 28th, 2006 (WAM) -- The General Authority of ArabRed Crescent and Red Cross Societies, continued today its 34th meetingduring which it listened to a number of working papers presented by Arabdelegates participating in the meeting.
During the meeting, which is being held at the Abu Dhabi RotanaBeach Hotel, the participants reviewed working papers which include amending the charter of the organisation and the introduction of Arabicas one of the official languages being used at the Representative Counciland during international conference and the Middle East and North Africaas one of the approved geographical areas at the International Federationof Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
One of the papers touched on assistance delivered to quake victimsin Pakistan. It also proposed a USD1.5 million project as emergencyassistance to Pakistan. The projects include an Orientation Centre, rentingand operating of medical clinic for six months, building a maternity clinic,a Mother and Child Care Centre, providing an ambulance to AyoubHospital and the building of mosques in collaboration with Charity ServicesEstablishment.Dr. Saleh Mousa Al Taei, Director of Relief and Projects Departmentat the UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) presented a working paper whichgave details of the relief operations embarked upon by the RCS in a numberof countries.
The paper touched on humanitarian works by the UAE in Indonesiaat a total cost of AED37 million and in Sri Lanka at a total cost of AED18million and in India, Somalia and many other countries
