Dubai, Aug 23rd, 2010 (WAM)--Former Sudan President Field Marshal Abdul Rahman Siwar El Dhahab has been selected as the Islamic Personality of the year, said Dr. Saeed Harib, Deputy Chairman of Organising Committee of Dubai International Holy Quran Award.
He said that the Islamic Personality of the year is being considered as one of the important elements of Dubai International Holy Quran Award which has honoured a number of international Personalities in the past. Harib added that the Fl. Marshal Siwar El Dhahab was born in 1935 in Sudan, and graduated from Military College at 1955 and got training from Arab and Western countries and joined in the Sudan Armed Forces. He also served as Minister of Defence, General Commander and became the President. He also served as the Military Affairs Advisor to the Qatar Ruler, HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, and acted as the Commander of Police and Military in Doha. He has retired from the politics to completely dedicate for charity and humanitarian works and became the Chairman of Islamic Dawa Organisation in Sudan, which runs more than 205 Schools, 2000 mosques, 1000 wells, 10 irrigation projects, 14 hospitals, 800 clinics, 120 centres for child and mother care, and 6 orphanages in Africa. Siwar El Dhahab is also holding active membership of number of Islamic organisations worldwide. He is considered as a powerful personality in the Islamic world, and it was a rightful for the Dubai International Holy Quran Award to honour him as the Islamic Personality of 14th session.
