RIYADH: A fire struck a luxury compound in Al-Khaleej area east of the capital on Sunday night.
According to Capt. Abdullah Abdurahman bin Saleh from the Civil Defense, the restaurant, supermarket and coffee shop at Seder Village were affected by the flames. "There were no casualties as a result of the blaze that broke out around 10 p.m. on Sunday," he added.
Civil Defense forces were deployed to douse the flames with assistance from security patrols, the traffic department and the Red Crescent.
Saleh said that the Civil Defense deployed six firefighting teams to extinguish the blaze.
He said that the authorities are conducting investigations in cooperation with the Saudi Electric Company to determine the cause of the fire.
A spokesman from the compound said: "We are thankful to the Civil Defense authorities who came in no time to control the raging fire and averted heavy damage."
Normalcy has been restored in the compound and officials are trying to find out the cause of the incident, he said.
Seder Village, located on Salman Faris Road, some 35 km from the capital, contains detached bungalows ranging from two to five bedrooms.
Each dwelling is set within its own private, large landscaped gardens.
The compound often holds regular social events, such as coffee mornings, cinema evenings and a weekly poolside BBQ.
It also has its own sports facilities, supermarket, restaurant and other amenities.
