The Office of Civil Aviation and Airports (OACA) has recently conducted preliminary studies on the construction of an airfield in the islands of Kerkennah, a project decided by President Ben Ali at the cabinet meeting, held on October 29, 2008 and dedicated to examining the implementation of a comprehensive plan for the development of the archipelago.

The National Institute of Meteorology focuses on a study of wind direction to fix the location of the airport at an estimated 10 million and which will contribute to boost air traffic and tourism in the region.

Maritime traffic between the governorate of Sfax and Kerkennah will also be strengthened with the coming into operation of the ferry with a capacity of 800 passengers and 150 vehicles,  at a cost of some 12.7 MD.

Moreover, the work of development of the ecotourism resort of Sidi Founkhal continues with the extension of drinking water and sanitation.

In the health sector, a regional hospital is under construction in the delegation of Bir Ali Ben Khlifa.

In the ITC sector, a research center is progressing with a rapid pace, with 11 MD in funds.

Work of the two industrial zones Laghriba and Mahres was also recently launched.
