Abu Dhabi: The enrolment of expatriate pupils in Abu Dhabi public schools for the 2013-2014 academic year will begin from Sunday and will continue until Thursday, March 28, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) announced in a statement sent on Saturday.
Parents must enrol their children in schools located within their residential areas, according to the statement. The number of expatriate pupils in a class must also not exceed 20 per cent of the total number of pupils, with a maximum of 25 pupils in Cycle 1 (Grades 1 to 5) classes and a maximum of 30 pupils in Cycle 2 (Grades 6 to 9) and Cycle 3 (Grades 10 to 12) classes.
“Only pupils whose parents have paid their school fees for the current academic year will be eligible for registration in the next academic year,” said Mohammad Salem Al Daheri, executive director of school operations at Adec.
He also added that parents have to pay Dh500 to secure a seat for their children in the next academic year.
“Registration fees shall be part of the total tuition fees of Dh 6,000 per child. Those who fail to pay the registration fees will not be granted seats,” Al Daheri added.
Other requirements for enrolment include a personal interview for Grade 1 applicants. Pupils must also pass admission tests in Arabic, English and maths, with an average grade of, or higher than, 90 per cent.
Those applying for admission in Grades 2 to 12 must also pass an interview, and demonstrate that the average grade they achieved in the previous academic year was at least 90 per cent. They must also have earned an average of 85 per cent or above in Arabic, English and maths.
