The 10th round of the FIA GT Championship and one of the rounds of the newly-launched A1 Grand Prix will be the highlights at the Dubai Autodrome this season.
According to the new calendar released by Dubai Autodrome, the 10th round of the hugely-popular FIA GT Championship is scheduled to be held from November 16-18.
The calendar, which runs from September to May, is intended to provide the industry and racing fans with a detailed overview of the race-related events taking place at the Autodrome.
The highpoint in the first half of December will be the Dubai round of the A1 Grand Prix.
In January, there will be the first 24-hour car race event in the Middle East.
This race will be for production-based saloon and sports cars promoted by Dutch organisation, Creventic BV.
The concept of the race will be similar to events already successfully held in Europe, aimed at enthusiastic amateur racers rather than professional teams and drivers.
Commencing in January 2006, there will be regular race events designed to start a national motor racing programme in the UAE.
These will consist of events for the recently announced GTI Cup, for standard specification latest model Volkswagen Golf GTI cars specially prepared for racing, the UAE National Bike Championship, organised by the EMSF for production based 600 and 750cc motorcycles and the Gulf Radical Cup, being coordinated by GulfSport the Middle East importer of the extremely quick Radical sports racing cars.
The Dubai Autodrome also plans a race series championship for its own purpose-built, single-seater race cars, currently being sourced for the Race and Driving School, along with a series of races open to sports and saloon cars generally. Further details will be announced in due course of time.
Starting in September, Dubai Autodrome will organise training programmes for potential marshals.
The training days are open to both experienced marshals and those new to the sport. Details will be released shortly to all persons.
