Tehran - Iran's energy minister said here Monday evening keeping in mind commonalties and shared issues in important water issues, establishment of a trilateral supreme water council among Iran, Afghanistan of Tajikistan is necessary.
According to IRNA, Majid Namjou who was speaking at the trilateral ministerial session of the Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan water ministers reiterated, 'The existence of appropriate rules and regulations systems regarding water in any of these countries is one of the important issues that this supreme council can pursue.'
He added, 'Taking advantage of the successful experiences of the three countries has been the corner stone of for holding a trilateral Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan meeting and keeping in mind our shared religions, cultures, languages and histories taking advantage of the existing potentials is necessary.
The energy minister reiterated, 'All three countries have had good achievements in territorial changes issues, but it is necessary that such issues as floods, droughts and the other issues involved in territorial changes should be pursued by all three countries jointly and the existing experiences in these fields should be taken advantage of.'
Namjou said that the establishment of competent research, scientific center and academic center, strengthening the human forces, and designing and sponsoring international organs, such as a water board of governors' council were among the other axes of the discussions at the trilateral Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan meeting.
He emphasized, 'The next meeting of the three countries' water officials that is scheduled for April 20th, 2011, too, would be held in Tehran.'
The first trilateral meeting of the water ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and the Republic of Tajikistan was held in Tehran at the Energy Ministry in the presence of Afghanistan's energy minister, Tajikistan's energy and industries minister, and the Iranian energy minister on Monday, December 27th, as a corner stone for the three countries' long term watr cooperation.
