BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--State-owned Emirates Steel Industries, or ESI, said it has started production at its 2.4 billion U.A.E. dirhams ($653.4 million) heavy section mill, Abu Dhabi-based Al Ittihad daily reports Tuesday citing an executive.
The new plant has an annual production capacity of one million metric tons, the paper reports.
The plant aims to meet a growing demand for heavy sections and steel structures driven by giant infrastructure projects in the GCC states and the Middle East region, Suhail Al Ameri, ESI's chairman, said according to the daily.
