Emirates airline has resumed flights to Bangkok It had reportedly suspended flights to the Thai capital following a bloodless coup on Tuesday.

"After a careful review of the current situation, Emirates has resumed all flights to Bangkok with immediate effect," said an Emirates spokesman.

The spokesman also said that Emirates flights to Bangkok were not cancelled, as had previously been reported, but rerouted to Hong Kong and Singapore.

Emirates operates 19 flights a week between Dubai and Bangkok and, according to the airline, all Bangkok-bound flights had left the UAE on Tuesday before the news of the coup broke.

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways, meanwhile, operates 14 flights a week to Bangkok.

"We did not cancel any flights to Bangkok on Tuesday and the operations are running smoothly," said an Etihad Airways spokesperson.

Members of the Pacific Asia Travel Association in Thailand are keen to reassure the global travel sector that the coup has been non-violent, and that travel and tourism services are operating as normal.

Thailand is a popular destination with tourists from all over the world and any violence there could seriously hurt the country's economy.
