DAMASCUS - Minister of Electricity Imad Khamis said that the damage caused to the national economy due to the power outages resulted from sabotage acts is estimated at around SYP 218 billion.
Meeting an Indian delegation , Minister Khamis reviewed the losses in the infrastructure, power networks and vital facilities which have been targeted by the armed terrorist groups.
He added that the electricity sector lost 81 martyrs, while 175 workers were injured and 29 were kidnapped.
He pointed out that the construction of a number of power plants was delayed because of the non-implementation of funding agreements in this regard, including Deir Ali and Deir Ezzor power plants.
Head of the Indian delegation, Feroze Mithiborwala said that Syria is paying the price for its support for the Palestinian people and the resistance in the face of the Israeli occupation.
He added that Syria's enemies recruited mercenaries form 29 countries to fight against it in an attempt to undermine the country and its principled stances.
The delegation members stressed that they will convey the reality of the situation in Syria to the Indian and international public opinion.
