Scheduled to open in August, Inflight Dubai aims to break new world records with over 22 people in the tunnel at one time

Record breaking Dubai looks set to create yet another world first with the longest wind tunnel that's scheduled to open during the first week of August, playing host to ardent adventure lovers for a unique indoor skydiving experience.

Inflight Dubai, which is a sister concern of Skydive Dubai, also plan to break the world record by having more than 22 people skydive together when the 68 feet long tunnel opens to the public.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, marketing manager Alex Jacob said: "We wanted to plan something unique for our followers in the UAE and took on a clean piece of paper to plot an idea, which became the world's largest wind tunnel.

"With maximum wind speeds just shy of 300kms an hour, the tunnel itself will be 68-feet in length and 16.8-feet in diameter."

The glass structure will be housed in Inflight Dubai's main facility on the Al Ain highway.

Jacob explained that the speed, which is controlled by an outer engine, will be altered to facilitate people of all ages, starting as young as three years and upwards, along with basing it on people's degree of skill.

He added: "We are proposing two more tunnels after this one opens on the Al Ain highway, with the second location already been plotted as the Skydive Dubai drop zone on The Palm Jumeirah.

"The third venue is still under discussion but we should be making an announcement shortly."

The concept is similar to the Mirdif City Centre attraction, which features iFly Dubai, the country's first indoor skydiving concept.

Talking about the plan to break the world record of the maximum number of skydivers indoors at one time, Jacob said: "The current record is anywhere between 20 and 22 people at one time. We are all set to break that record."

Questioned further and he said: "The head down position is the best way to fit that many people in comfortably at one time. Seeing is believing."
