Hannover-based Deutsche Messe AG, the world’s second largest exposition company, is entering the Middle East market. The firm is setting up a Dubai branch and also has a new exhibition, Domotex Middle East, which will be held next year.

This is the second German expo organiser to enter Dubai following Epoch Messe Frankfurt (EMF), the world's largest. EMF is running a number of exhibitions at the DWTC, some of which it acquired from the previous organisers.

The Dubai World Trade Centre has reached saturation as major exhibitions face space limitations.

The Dubai government is developing the Dubai Exhibition City as part of the larger Jebel Ali Airport City, and it is expected to accelerate the growth of the expo industry. Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman of Emirates Group, said: “This is a most welcome development underlining Dubai’s claim to be the unchallenged trade exhibition hub of the Middle East and is a move in line with the Government’s initiative to establish Exhibition City.”

“We see major business opportunities in the region as the expo sector is registering strong growth year on year,” said Susanne Klaproth, Deutsche Messe director.

The company holds about 50 trade shows a year involving 21,000 exhibitors, 1.79 million visitors and 16,000 journalists from over 100 countries.
