Dubai Ever wish you could catch up on all those downloaded films on the computer from your big television screen? And all of this sitting on the comfy couch in the living room?
If all of the above features are on your wish list, Imation’s Link Wireless A/V Extender might be what you’re looking for. It could add more value to your computer and television by using them together.
This product enables users to transfer contents from PC or Mac to their viewing gadgets such as projectors or televisions. It extends to both audio and video through movies, pictures, computer games, internet TV or presentations.
Good resolution
The contents will be delivered wireless. The extender supports a greater resolution than the common streamers available. It can transfer up to 720 pixels of video, up to 1,080 pixels of images and also relay audio in stereo format.
Video is restricted to 720p at the best quality. This is a bit disappointing, but understandable considering the technical limitations of wireless USB. It has a directional antenna and has a range of 10 metres.
Secure streaming
The wireless USB 2.0 technology with ultra-wideband allows faster — and more stable — content transfer. It also consumes less power than the common WiFi products.
The secure and reliable streaming technology makes the product suitable for both home and office uses. The fin-shaped receiver in glossy black has VGA and HDMI outputs in addition to 3.5mm audio output jack.
Good range
The quick start guide is straight-forward and includes some troubleshooting tips, but I think most people could figure it out without the instructions.
Once the computer has the driver installed, it’s a matter of just plugging in the transmitter and the second monitor will work as you had it configured last.
I tried running full-screen PowerPoint, web browser, and playing a video — all of it worked great.
I took the computer out of the room to about ten metres to test the range, but the video continued playing in sync and did not break the signal.
My only caveats would be about the heat generated. The wireless link did get fairly warm during use.
But it’s still pretty cool for Dh699. I think it will make for an easier process than even hooking a projector up to a laptop.
It also looks better than the long VGA cable.
