Dubai, 5 July 2010 (WAM) - The General Headquarters of Dubai police has signed a contract with Al Hashemi Engineering Consulting Company (AHECC) to start design works of the new building of the Forensic Laboratory & Criminology Department.

The contract was signed by Lt. General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Commander General and Abdullah Al Hashemi, Chairman of AHECC.

Following the signing, Lt. General Dahi Khalfan said the 37,000 square meter facility will consist of four centrally connected sections, as well as a separate building for radioactive and other hazardous materials, an area for testing cars damaged by accidents or fires, an administration section, laboratories, stores and an academic section.

Lt. General Dahi Khalfan revealed that construction works will start in July 2011. The building is scheduled to be completed by 2014. He added that a team from Dubai Police, headed by Major General Khamis Al Mazeena, will begin a tour that will take them to the FBI laboratories in the United States and other leading countries in forensic science.

The existing forensic laboratories of Dubai Police conduct several examinations, including hair & fiber analysis, image analysis, handwriting examinations, solid materials, pigment test, drugs, chemical elements, firearms tests, document forgeries, ropes, insulation and adhesive materials, shoe marks, tyre marks and tracks, audio tapes, toxic materials, wood, abrasive materials, ammunitions, feather tests and glass tests.
