Abu Dhabi, 23 Dec. 2012 (WAM) ? The Center of Waste Management ? Abu Dhabi - is set to extend its waste separation program in Abu Dhabi as part of its continuous efforts to broaden the initiative?s reach across the emirate. To be conducted in two phases, the endeavor will include the distribution of 240-liter bins.
The first phase has commenced from Al Khatem, and moved on to East Wathba to be followed by Bani Yas - Al Shamekha and Al Shahama. Bringing nearly 4,100 homes under its scope in the first phase, the program will provide 8,200 green bins (dedicated to recyclable waste) and black bins (dedicated to general waste). The second phase of the plan will include the areas of Mohammad bin Zayed, New Bani Yas, Al Shawamekh, Al Mozaz, Bani Yas Club area, Al Ghabat, Old Bani Yas, Al Wathba Al Askria, Old West Wathba, Al Awamer, Al Kabrat, Al Rahba, Old Shahama, New Shahama, Al Bahia Al Jadeda, Al Shellalah, Ajaban, Al Sade, and Al Adalah. Encompassing more than 828 residential complexes, the second phase will include nearly 11,000 homes. Dr Salem Al Kaabi, Deputy General Manager, Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi, said: "The Center of Waste Management ? Abu Dhabi is making good progress with its diligent efforts to make Abu Dhabi a sustainable city. Towards this direction, we have intensified our initiatives to raise awareness on waste separation and ensure individuals use the allocated containers. "We value the cooperation and responsiveness of Abu Dhabi?s citizens and residents in driving the issue of waste management in the emirate. We invite everyone to communicate with the Center of Waste Management to report any irregularities that they might observe and assure them of our immediate action to address the situation."The Center of Waste Management has conducted a public awareness campaign that included door-to-door visits to educate households on the technique of separating waste according to color coded bins.
