Amman - The new British Ambassador to Jordan Peter Millet said that the momentous events in Tunisia and Egypt have highlighted the importance of responding to people's demands for political, economic and social reform.
In a press statement distributed by the British Embassy in Amman, the ambassador highlighted the importance of working in the Middle East at this time.
He said he is looking forward to finding ways to support Jordan's efforts with regard to reforms. "The visit to the area last week by the British Foreign Secretary, William Hague, means that the United Kingdom's relations with Jordan are at the top of London's agenda. We value the long and close friendship with Jordan and its people" he added.
"The Middle East - its history, its culture, its people - has fascinated me since my time working in the Gulf in the 1980s. More recently I have worked on many different issues, including the European Union, energy, security and Cyprus. But I have always followed the Middle East with interest. So I feel privileged to have this opportunity to serve as Ambassador in Jordan."
