MANAMA: The BIW Labour Accommodation project is undertaking a 20 per cent expansion with the addition of more than 100 residential units to the existing buildings and also developing an integrated retail zone.

The expansion comes in response to steady market demand for accommodations that meet the government mandated guidelines for such communal living.

The project was launched in 2007 within Bahrain Investment Wharf (BIW), Salman Industrial City-Hidd, and covers a total area of 120,000sqm.

Designed as a residential gated compound to accommodate more than 10,000 industrial workers serving BIW and Salman Industrial City, the project includes communal facilities like a restaurant, barber shop, landscaped recreational areas, as well as CCTV and 24-hour security.

Construction of the new units is underway, with expected handover by the fourth quarter of this year.

Long-term lease tenures are available for entire floors or half floors as needed.

The retail zone will include 14 outlets, offering dining, supermarket, money exchanges and other amenities.

Nearly 60pc of the work on the retail zone are complete and handover is anticipated by end-2020.

BIW Labour Accommodations chairman Talal Al Mulla said, “The project is a unique investment, not only for its exclusive business proposition, but also for its contribution to the industrial and social infrastructure in Bahrain. This has never been more apparent than in recent times with the impact of Covid-19 making the need for well-designed labour housing, that allocates appropriate social spacing to individuals.”

BIW Labour Accommodations general manager Nasser Mohammed said, “Our expansion plans in terms of both housing and retail units cements our position as the standard for community labour accommodation in the kingdom. Moreover, it provides lucrative spin-off opportunities to those with an eye to a specific target audience. Looking forward, we aim to announce new phases for BIW Labour Accommodations in the near future.”
