MUSCAT -- The Department of English Studies at Bayan College recently organised the first departmental seminar to discuss the importance of English literature. The topics presented included the purpose of literature, accelerating writing skills through blogging and feminism in literature. Dr Mongi Hamouda, Assistant Dean and Head of Department (HoD) English Studies, along with Dr George Kolanchery and Anuradha M, lecturers at the Department of English Studies, addressed the audience. Dr Mongi discussed 'the purpose of literature and who cares' whereby the literary world is not taken seriously given the lack of student funds, low self-esteem, less career opportunities and consideration of literature as a complete female activity. The seminar is part of the many activities organised by Bayan College.
