Suspension Covers All Scientific Specialties: Minister

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 5: The Minister of Education Dr Mudhi Al-Hamoud has issued a decision to extend the ban on Kuwaiti students opting to register for higher studies in universities and colleges in India and the Philippines, reports Al-Anba daily.

Dr Al-Hamoud disclosed the suspension covers all scientific specialties. The ministry, she added, will not evaluate these certificates because the programs lack the prerequisites for accreditation on the international level.

She said the ministry will liaise with some universities to offer special programs for Kuwaiti students whose admissions are approved in those countries.

The minister has also issued a similar decision to suspend the registration of Kuwaiti students for all levels of university education at the American University in Athens, Greece. She advised those who have registered at this university to seek transfer to another recognized university.

As regards universities in Malaysia, the minister issued another decision to list those recognized by Kuwait's Education Ministry, provided the number of students registered does not exceed 50. However, she made an exception in the disciplines of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Undersecretary for Scholarship Affairs and Information Systems at the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Tareq Al-Khaled stressed on the importance of the return of the 19 scholarship holders in Greece and those enrolled in the American University in Athens to resume their work immediately, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Al-Khaled said he based his directive according to the directive issued from the Ministry of Higher Education number 582 dated 2/12/2010. He added the decision involved the suspension of registration of Kuwaiti students in the American University in Athens for the undergraduate and graduate stages.

He added the decision states the students should continue their studies in any other university that is recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education in Kuwait.
