DUBAI, March 24 (KUNA) -- A study by Dubai Ports and Customs Authority revealed a 40 percent growth in the automotive parts business in Dubai in 2005.

A press release issued by the Authority said on Friday that the size of auto parts business exceeded 18 billion Arab Emirates dirhams (USD 5 billion), compared with AED 13 billion (USD 3.5) in 2004.

Imports in Dubai jumped from AED 8 billion (USD 2.1 billion) in 2004 to AED 11 bilion (USD 2.9 billion) in 2005, while exports increased from AED 542 (USD 142 million) in 2004 to AED 934 (USD 254 million) in 2005.

Auto parts imports formed 63 percent of Dubai's total commercial activities, while exports reached 5 percent and re-exports reached 31 percent.

Japan is considered the largest source for auto parts in Dubai with a total value of AED 2 billion (USD 544 million), followed by China with AED 1.9 billion (USD 517), followed by Germany, the US, and Italy.
