DAMASCUS - Syrian Vice President Farouk al-Shara discussed Sunday with the Advisor to Sudanese President Mustafa Othman Ismael the situation in the Arab region, the necessity of boosting Arab solidarity and the need for unifying Arab political stances to face challenges encountering the Palestinian cause.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the latest regional and international developments in addition to the situation in Darfur.

Mr. Ismael expressed his country's appreciation over Syria's pan-Arab stances under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad to unify the Arab attitude and defend the Arab nation rights. Deputy Foreign Minister Fayssal Mikdad attended the meeting.

"The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the latest developments in Sudan and Darfur, particularly the comprehensive peace agreement, as well as evaluating the regional situations, particularly after the coming of the new Israeli government and the necessity of finding an Arab unified stance towards policies posed by this government," the Sudanese President Advisor said in a statesmen following the meeting.

He added, "We also discussed the approaches of the US new Administration, its proposals and reflections on relations between the US and each of Sudan and Syria, the stance of this Administration regarding peace in the region and its active and fair role it might play in this regard."
