MUSCAT -- Al Nahda Resort & Spa will host the first-ever grand opera concert by European Chamber Opera (ECHO) in Barka on October 25.
ECHO is one of the best-known opera production companies in Europe and prides itself on the diversity of its large repertoire, its quality of performance and commitment to inspiration and innovation.
Stefan Paul Sanchez, artistic director, ECHO said: "Our productions are sought after by major theatres, historic venues and educational institutions throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East."
The grand opera concert will feature some of the best-known arias and ensembles ever written. Points out Stefan: "The greatest singers of our age are synonymous with many of these works of genius. Luciano Pavarotti... E Lucevan Le Stelle (Tosca); Placido Domingo... Che Gelida Manina (La Bohème); Maria Callas...Vissi D´Arte (Tosca); Tito Gobbi... Largo al Factotum (Barbieri di Siviglia) -- to name just a few."
He adds: "The audience will also enjoy re-hearing... Seguidilla (Carmen) Toreador's song (Carmen). The famous duet from (The Pearlfisher's) Mozart's pyrotechnical Queen of Night Aria (Magic Flute). The champagne-popping duet Brindisi' (La Traviata) and, of course, the famous baritone aria from that same tragic opera Di Provenza. Apart from these we will include light items from West Side Story, My Fair Lady and Phantom of the Opera."
Hectic preparations are on at the Al Nahda Resort & Spa, to make it a grand show. Julian Ayers, general manager, Al Nahda Resort & Spa says that such an event is happening for the first time in Barka and they want to make it unique.
"Our designers are currently working on the set-up in the main lawn that will be beautifully lit. The audience will notice an attention to detail in the stage layout that is being designed to complement the unfolding drama. We promise this will be a fantastic evening of some of the best tunes ever written," Julian added.
The event is being sponsored by BankMuscat, ID Design, OUA, Pepsi, Oman Air, African & Eastern, Red Bull and Guerlain Paris.
Doors will open at 7pm followed by dinner at 7.30pm. The concert will begin at 8.45pm and will continue until 11.15pm with desserts and coffee served during the intermission.
The tickets for this grand opera concert are priced at RO38 per guest. Alternatively, one can book a full table of ten for RO320 (inclusive of taxes). This includes welcome drink and dinner (international buffet with live cooking stations and beverages with the meal). The tickets for the grand opera concert can be bought from Al Nahda Resort & Spa; ID Design at Markaz Al Bahja; or Al Nahda Resort airport counter. There are big prizes to be won during the evening.
Guerlain Paris is giving away a one-litre Eau de Cologne Imperiale bottle created in 1853. The bottle is evocative of the crown and dress of Empress Eugenia, wife of Napoleon III. Guerlain is also giving three small bottles of Mitsouko perfume created in 1919. Inspired by the heroine of a French novelist, the fragrance's mood is reminiscent of Puccini's Opera Madame Butterfly portraying a highly dignified, mysterious and ultra feminine woman.
