MANAMA: A Saudi Arabian operator of value fashion retail centres hopes to cash in on its brand equity among Bahrainis with its first stand-alone store in the kingdom.

Al Haram Ma’ameer near Alba-Nuwaidrat Interchange (formerly known as the Alba Roundabout) inaugurated yesterday by Labour and Social Development Ministry Under-Secretary Sabah Al Dossary is Al Haram Import and Export’s second location in Bahrain.

Built at an investment of $30 million, the store spread over 10,000sqm offers an expansive selection of ready-to-wear clothing for men, women and children, as well as shoes, bags and accessories.

It will also offer a range of home accessories like bed and bath linen, tableware and other textile products.

The Al Haram retail complex will also have food and beverage outlets, a food court, a gaming arcade and a children’s play area.

The company, which has more than 60 per cent market share in Saudi Arabia’s affordable fashion and lifestyle apparel market, plans to open two more stores in Bahrain by 2021, taking its presence to four locations by then.

Al Haram launched its Bahrain foray last November through an outlet in Atrium Mall, Janabiya.

The company’s debut store cost $15m to set up.

As it expands its retail footprint across the kingdom, Al Haram will make an investment of $150m in total.

As many as 250 jobs for Bahrainis will be created by the company across its Bahrain operations over the next three years. The first store alone has given jobs to 40 Bahrainis, while the second Al Haram would employ another 50.

Commenting on the company’s plans for Bahrain, Al Haram Import and Export board of directors said, “We are pleased to allocate part of our investment in Bahrain which we consider as an oasis of investment and investment-friendly due to the sound policies followed by the government of Bahrain.

“We have been looking to bring Al Haram to Bahrain for a number of years as huge numbers of shoppers from Bahrain drive across the causeway to buy from our stores.”

“Our message to the people of Bahrain is: We are near to you now, we are here.”

The board members said over the years, the company had achieved “great success thanks to our loyal customers, quality products and competitive pricing.”

The reasons for the company’s success, they said was “sourcing quality products from suppliers around the world” and “dedicated service that ensures customers get a comfortable and wholesome shopping experience.”

The company plans to open a store in Salmaniya by the end of the year followed by the fourth store in Diyar Al Muharraq by next year. Al Haram is offering special opening discounts across its entire range of products at the Ma’ameer store.
