Apr 09th, 2012 (WAM)--Dr. Salem Abdul Rahman Al Darmaki, Acting Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health, opened the training workshop organised in the ministry's building in Dubai to train the employees on dealing with hazardous materials in hospitals.
The workshop is organised on two phases to include 15 hospitals in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Al Dhaid, Khorfakkan and Ras Al Khaimah. Dr. Salem Al Darmaki, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, gave a welcome speech, stressing the importance of safety in health institutions with focus on patients and employees, wishing for all the participants to benefit from the training workshop and raise efficiency and quality of health services. He added: "The workshop comes as part of the initiative of the quality assurance and the health accreditation department to increase the awareness of the employees when dealing with hazardous substances, apply correct methods of storage systems, unify laws and regulations, and implement the adequate storage systems of hazardous materials in the ministry's hospitals, primary health centres and medical zones". On her part, Dr. Wafa Jaber Al Rahma, Acting Director of Quality Assurance and Health Accreditation Department at the Ministry of Health, emphasised that the workshop is a beginning of a series of the department's workshops to increase the awareness of the employees on the dangers of hazardous materials in the health institutions. She added: "The training workshop focused on an introduction about hazardous materials and their types, material safety data sheets, importance of hazardous materials labeling, adequate storage methods in every health institute". The workshop was attended by 51 participants representing training coordinators in nursing and quality assurance departments, primary health centers, medical districts as well as nurses and health risk technicians and specialists.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2012.
