Tehran - Deputy Foreign Minister for Euro-American Affairs Ali Ahani said on Sunday that South-South cooperation guarantees bilateral economic cooperation between Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and Mercosur as the South America's leading trading bloc. Ahani made the remark in a meeting with ambassadors of ECO and Mercosur member states.

In the meeting, he called for broadening of economic cooperation between the two sides.

"We are now witnessing collapse of bi-polar systems and emergence of new powers who play a leading role in awakening nations irrespective of their geographic distances," he said.

New colonial powers under the guise of Neo-liberalism are now doing their best to prevent nake use of global developments to their benefits, he said.

After the 1990s, big powers along with NATO have made direct military interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Libya and other parts of the world to attain their goals, Ahani said.

There try to sow seeds of discord among developing countries under various pretexts such as terrorism, human rights and fear of nuclear weapons, he said.

They try to put pressure on developing countries to obstruct their progress and success, he said.

This is a golden opportunity for developing countries to make use of current developments taking place throughout the world to set up a just world order, he underlined.

Developing countries should rely on one another and exchange their experiences and expertise in various fields to serve their nations, he said.

"We should believe that South-South cooperation can establish balanced economic relations among all parties," Ahani said.

Highlighting the capabilities and potentials of ECO and MERCOSUR, he said this could lead to expansion of cultural and political relations and cooperation among countries in Latin America, Asia and the Middle East region.

Both ECO and Mercosur can manage to play a key role in global developments, he underlined.

He expressed the hope that the countries of both regions would make use of their high capabilities to broaden cooperation.
