Muscat - An agreement for a new 300-bed specialised hospital project in the Governorate of Muscat was signed on Monday.

Elixir United Investment Company and Italian engineering consultancy Sering International [Oman branch], were the signatories to carry out the initial design of the project on an area of approximately 48,000sq m at a cost of RO100mn.

The project, expected to be completed in 2020, will boost the health services sector by providing the latest global technologies and highly skilled human resources in paediatrics, orthopaedics and obstetrics.

The project aims to contribute to the new approach of the Ministry of Health, which encourages the participation of the private sector in healthcare at a more comprehensive and broader level within the service package and facilities. The project will be implemented in collaboration with Italy’s second largest private health facility, Gemelli Hospitals.

Sheikh Nasser bin Mohammed al Hashar, chairman of the Board of Directors of Elixir United Investment Company and Sergio Demoyo, chairman and chief executive officer, Sering Oman branch signed the agreement. Sheikh Hashar stressed the need for a comprehensive private health facility to respond to the demographic changes and challenges of healthcare in the sultanate.
