Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Company Limited (Adgas), said yesterday it has awarded a $613 million contract to Middle East Projects International (MEPI), a fully-owned subsidiary of France's Technip, for the first package of the offshore associated gas (OAG) project on Das Island.

The facility will compress, dehydrate and deli-ver offshore gas through a 30-inch marine pipeline to the Habshan facilities, to be processed and delivered to local consumers.

The project is the first building block that links offshore gas on the one hand, and onshore gas and the local market on the other.

The contract covers engineering, procurement and construction.

It also covers pre-commissioning, commissioning and performance testing of the new processing facilities that will compress, dehydrate and deliver an additional 211 million standard cubic feet a day of low-pressure associated gas from the Adma-Opco venture on Das Island to Habshan.

"The plant is expected to be fully operational towards the end of 2009," Adgas said.

There are approximately 213 billion cubic feet of confirmed gas reserves in the UAE.
