Construction plans are underway for an additional academic building at a primary school for boys in Budaiya, it has emerged.

The BD811,064 project was tendered to Al Jameel Constructions and is expected to be completed within 12 months.

Details were revealed by the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry in a statement yesterday as construction commenced on the project on behalf of the Education Ministry.

“The ministry has taken into account the modern requirements of the Education Ministry in line with continuous educational developments across the kingdom when designing the new academic building while ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable educational environment is provided,” said construction projects director Mariam Ameen.

“The additional academic building will be developed on a 730sqm land plot with a total building size of 2,238.42sqm.

“The building will have three floors and 15 academic classes as well as a designated room for art and another for music along with a scientific laboratory and administrative offices and accompanying services.”

Ms Ameen stressed that all the requirements for sustainable green buildings have been taking into account when designing the additional academic building.

She also highlighted that energy consumption rationalisation policies will be implemented.

“This includes various methods of insulation for the rooftops, walls, and ceilings as well as heat-insulating glass,” she added.

“This reduces the electricity consumption expenses which the air conditioning system is a large part of.

“When constructing the building all measures of easing movement for students and staff members with special needs were taken into consideration as ramps were installed at every entrance to the new building as well as lifts near entrances to ease their movement between floors.

“Bathrooms were also constructed with an adequate size to ensure that their needs are met.”
