Abu Dhabi: The Department of Transport has added two new bus routes to the public network - making a total of nine routes in the capital.

New bus route numbers are 34 and 52, and will become operational from Monday.

Route 34 is due to link the Breakwater area to the Sharia Court area, beginning at Marina Mall, past Emirates Palace Hotel via Shaikh Khalifa Medical City, through Muroor Road, past Carrefour, ending at the Sharia Court terminal.

Services on this route will be operational from 6am to midnight.

The second new route, 54, will link the tourist club area to the Sharia Court area, beginning at City terminal via 13 street, past Madinat Zayed shopping centre, the Central Bus Station, Airport Road and Carrefour ending at the Sharia Court terminal. This service will also operate from 6am to midnight.

With these two new services, the bus frequency on Airport and Muroor Roads will be increased to every seven minutes, and is expected to increase bus use by more than 30 per cent.

"We are delighted to introduce two new routes that pass through several major landmarks of Abu Dhabi," said Saeed Al Hameli, General Manager, Bus Office, Department of Transport.

"The bus service, currently being offered free of charge on an introductory basis on seven routes, has been hailed by all segments of commuters. The people's feedback has been vital."
