NORTH SINAI, Egypt, Nov 16 (KUNA) -- Camel races of the 11th Arab Games are to start on Saturday in Al-Arish, capital of the North Sinai governorate, about 280 km from Cairo.

Up to 700 camels from six Arab countries are taking part in the first races. The Kuwait Camel Racing Club represents Kuwait in the race together with private camel owners.

The Arab Camel Racing Union has opened the door for all Arab camel owners willing to take part in the races in a bid to secure success for the games, Secretary of the Kuwait Club and head of the Kuwaiti delegation to the race, Rabei Al-Ajmi told KUNA on Friday.

He added that the heads of the Arab camel racing unions and committee held a meeting Friday morning to discuss the final arrangements of the races. He noted that five races are to start tomorrow.

Including camel racing in the Arab Games is a real gain for the fans of the sport in the Arab countries, Al-Ajmi said noting how camels are an integral part of the Arab heritage and life.

Competitors are after 39 medals allocated for the winners in the camel races.
