Dubai Near gale force winds whipped up sand in the inland areas across the UAE reducing visibility, churning up sea waves and ruining everyone’s weekend.

Motorists said the winds made some of the smaller cars weave around on the highways in Dubai and the Northern Emirates and the blowing sand reduced visibility to 500 metres.

The hazy blanket in Dubai made many of the famous landmarks disappear, residents said.

A doctor who is a child specialist warned that rising sand could aggravate the condition of asthmatic children.

He advised keeping children indoors as the sand may also cause articular rash and throat infections.

The Met office said the hazy weather will continue today. It will be warm as the temperature starts to climb. “The weather is changing,” said the weatherman. By Sunday it will turn cooler with patches of clouds.

The weather bureau sent a marine warning yesterday as the southerly winds churned up nearly six-foot high waves.
