"We should all make a difference; now it's our turn."

Al khalij Commercial Bank (al khaliji) Q.S.C announced that it will proudly be this year's platinum sponsor of the local celebration of World Environment Day.  This sponsorship is yet another commitment from the bank supporting activities that raise awareness of local and global issues.

His Excellency Sheikh Hamad Bin Faisal Bin Thani Al Thani, Chairman and Managing Director of al khaliji acknowledged the importance of Friends of the Environment Center (FEC) in enhancing the concept of preserving the environment through activities which all individuals can participate in:

"Our support of this year's World Environment Day is another indicator of our commitment to the future and well-being of Qatar. We are fervent supporters of the 2030 Vision, and all our corporate social responsibility efforts go towards making that vision another step closer to reality. We believe that environmental development is one of the key pillars that will achieve sustainability for future generations."

World Environment Day, under the motto of "We should all make a difference; now it's our turn" is an initiative launched by the United Nations Environment Program and held every fifth of June. This year's Qatari commemoration of the event will be hosted by the International Academy of Intercultural Development with collaboration from the Friends of the Environment Center (FEC), and under the auspices of Dr. Saif Ali Al Hijri, Vice Chairman of the Qatar Foundation and Chairman of FEC.  In 2010, more than 90 schools, 1500 school children, and members of the general public partook in the activities.  This year, participation is expected to even exceed that number.

"On behalf of FEC, I extend my thanks and appreciation to H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Faisal Bin Thani Al Thani and al khaliji family for their support to the activities of World Environment Day," said Dr. Saif Alhijri, Chairman of the FEC. "It is not strange for al khaliji to provide this support for environmental causes through encouraging young generations to actively participate in activities that  promote a cleaner and healthier environment here in Qatar."

Dr. Alhijri also called on companies, organizations, individuals, and groups to support the environmental aspirations of the state of Qatar as envisioned by the Ministry of Environment and other environmental organizations.  Support can come in the form of  volunteering, donations, or simply offering moral support.

"We are proud to support this year's theme, the competition will allow talents from all age groups to express and share personal thoughts on the World Environment", said Ms. Abeer Al Kalla, Head of Public Relations and Communications at al khaliji. "We should all make a difference, today's environmental issues will have to be dealt with tomorrow's generations. An event such as World Environment Day is required to direct attention to this crucial issue." She added.

al khaliji's World Environment Day 2011 sponsorship is only a part of an on-going strategy of supporting social issues affecting Qatar, in line with al khaliji's aim to support the present and future generations.
