VIENNA (AFP)--Iran and the United Nations nuclear watchdog will meet again on May 21 to discuss Tehran's disputed nuclear programme, the International Atomic Energy Agency chief inspector said Tuesday following two days of closely-watched talks.

"We had a good exchange of views and we will meet again on Monday," Hermann Nackaerts said in a joint statement to journalists with Iran's envoy, ambassador Ali Asghar Soltanieh.

Soltanieh meanwhile noted: "We had fruitful discussions in a very conducive environment."

"We have made progress on this issue regarding preparing and negotiating the modality framework for resolving our outstanding issues," he told reporters.

Both men declined to take questions or make any further comments.

Nackaerts has wanted Iran to address claims made in an extensive IAEA report in November that at least until 2003, and possibly since, there were activities which could only conceivably be aimed at developing a nuclear bomb.

Tehran meanwhile insists its nuclear programme has a solely peaceful purpose.

The two days of talks in Vienna were closely watched for insights into Tehran's tactics ahead of a meeting with world powers next week in Baghdad.
