TUNIS, July 30 (Reuters) - Tunisia has cut its GDP growth forecast to 0.5 percent this year, down from an initially expected 1 percent, its finance minister said on Thursday.

Slim Chaker said Tunisia was in a "difficult situation" after the North African country's tourism industry, which represents about 7 percent of the economy, was hit by two major Islamist militant attacks this year. Strikes and protests also disrupted the country's vital phosphate exports.

In 2014, Tunisia posted GDP growth of 2.3 percent.
