MUSCAT -- With the Sultanate needing a number of hospitality professionals who can cater to the growing demand in the tourism and hospitality sectors, Mohammed al Toobi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism paid a cordial visit to the National Hospitality Institute (NHI) at Wadi al Kabir yesterday. He was accompanied by Salim Naseer, Director-General of Ministry of Manpower, Faisal al Hosni, Director-General of Investments and Quality Control for Ministry of Tourism, and Salem al Mamari, Director-General of Tourism Promotion for Ministry of Tourism who toured the institute's facilities and experienced the class of imparting lessons in excelling hospitality industry.
Al Toobi praised the efforts of NHI in moulding a better work force for the industry and for assisting in the growth of tourism sector. He hoped to see more citizens graduating from the institute and contributing to the tourism and hospitality sectors. Stephen Thomas, CEO, and Ali Hassan, Vice Chairman from Renaissance SAOG, and Adil Bahwan, GM, TISCO were also present during the high level visit. NHI has, over a period of time, carved a niche for quality vocational training for the hospitality catering and travel industries in the Gulf region.
Being a public company in the private sector with its board of directors being representatives of the leading hotels and catering companies in Oman, the NHI SAOG brings world-class professional education and training solutions in cuisine, travel, tourism and hospitality to the Sultanate of Oman. Currently, 182 Omani students including 32 girls are making use of the facilities of the institute against a projected need of 4,500 Omani employees by the end of 2011 in the two sectors. So far, as many as 5,200 citizens have successfully completed various hospitality courses from NHI. Besides academic instruction, NHI also offers placement assistance to their students.
