Beirut - The Syrian Patriotic Forces party issued a statement on Wednesday calling for nationwide protests and demonstrations on February 4 to bring down the Syrian regime.
The statement declares Friday to be the "day of anger" in Syria, a day marked, the statement reads, by "the achievement of the dream of freedom; ending the tyranny and slavery in the country".
Emboldened by the recent ousting of President Ben Ali in Tunisia and the protests that have swept across Egypt and several other Arab nations subsequently, the party's statement urges the Arab and international media to support their cause.
"The Syrian regime has surpassed all other "Arab mafia" regimes in imposing the emergency law as the law enforced in the country," the statement continues.
The statement goes on to say that the ruling Asad family have insulted the dignity of the Syrian military over the past decades by waging war against its Syrian and Kurdish people as well as the Lebanese, Palestinians and Iraqis.
The party end by calling on the country's youth to gather after the Friday prayers in the squares of Damascus, Aleppo and all other Syrian cities, bypassing their political and partisan affiliations to stand united, "as the youth of Tunisia and Egypt did".
