DAMASCUS - Minister of Agriculture Adel Safar on Saturday discussed with French Secretary of State In charge of Industry and Consumption Luc Chatel the industrial and agrarian cooperation between the two countries and means of enhancing them.

During the meeting, the two sides showed readiness and desire to develop bilateral ties in the interest of both countries, and expanding them to cover seeds, nutritional industries, cheese, yogurt and olive oil.

Minister Safar said that Syria is in need of developing its food industries and establishing new industries based on the Syrian product and cooperation with France in the field of animal health, agrarian scientific researches, seeds, water and plants.

The French Minister, for his part, underlined readiness to develop relations with Syria in all fields and investing the French expertise to develop industrial and agrarian ties as well as improving agricultural products including the industry of cheese, yogurt and butter.

Later, the French official, accompanied by Minister of Industry Fouad Issa al-Joni, visited the Syrian Limited Bel company for the manufacture of cheese in Damascus.

Mr. Chatel toured the company's departments, saying that this company is considered as a strong example of cooperation between Syria and France.

Bel Company is a fruit of Syrian-French cooperation. It was established in 2005 with $ 17 millions cost and a product capacity of 8 thousand tons annually. Bel is famous for its product of La Vache Qui Ri ( the laughing cow).
